Mrs. Sassard's Green Tomato Chow Chow

To native Charlestonians, chow chow is practically a delicacy, and this jar comes from Mrs. Sassard's, a family-owned Charleston-area company that's been making Southern preserves and relishes since 1917. Now run by the fourth generation of the Sassard family, the company still makes everything by hand using the same recipes and clean ingredients they started with over a century ago: no artificial flavors, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, or MSG.

This spicy-sweet relish is made from chopped green tomatoes, cabbage, onions, and bell peppers in a vinegar-sugar brine with warm spices. Spoon it over BBQ pork, hot dogs, beans, or deviled eggs, or just eat it straight out of the jar.
